Privacy and cookies

This page explains what data valeriodirosa.com collects, why, and for how long. The short version: the only personal data I ask for is your name and email, when you sign up. Google Analytics statistics only run if you accept them in the banner.

Who is responsible

Valerio Di Rosa, at valerio.dirosa@ik.me.

Newsletter

If you join the newsletter I collect your first name (optional), your email address and the date of your consent. I use them only to tell you when a new book or a new language edition comes out. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR art. 6.1.a), which you can withdraw at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.

Sign-up is for ages 14 and up.

Bonuses for readers

Some books give readers free extras on the /bonus page. If you leave your email to get them, I use it to send you the files and a few emails about the book. That page is for adults (parents, relatives, coaches). It is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them (COPPA). If you believe a child has given me their details, write to me and I will delete them.

Who handles data for me

MailerLite (MailerLite Limited) stores the subscriber list and sends the emails. It also records delivery, open and click statistics, which I only look at to see whether the emails are useful. MailerLite's policy is at mailerlite.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Vercel (Vercel Inc.) hosts the site. Like any host, it keeps technical logs of visits (IP address, date and time, page requested) for security and operations. Vercel's policy is at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Some of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards required by the GDPR (standard contractual clauses or the Data Privacy Framework). I never sell or share your data, and I don't use it for advertising.

To count visits and see which pages are useful I use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited, with possible transfer of data to Google LLC in the United States under the Data Privacy Framework. It records pages viewed, where the visit came from, device type, and approximate country and city. Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. I have turned off Google Signals and ad personalization, and I don't use this data for advertising.

Google Analytics only loads if you press "Accept" in the banner: until then your browser sends no request to Google. If you accept, it sets the cookies _ga and _ga_DVYSX8W1XD, which last up to 13 months, and the data is kept in Google Analytics for 14 months. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR art. 6.1.a and the ePrivacy rules). You can change your mind at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page: if you decline, the cookies are deleted. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie. Google's privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Fonts are hosted on the site itself, so your browser doesn't contact third-party servers to load them.

The sign-up form is provided by MailerLite and loads from its servers: when you open a page with the form, MailerLite receives your IP address.

Links to Amazon

The "Buy on" buttons take you to Amazon. From there, Amazon's privacy policy applies, not this one.

How long I keep it

I keep your name and email until you unsubscribe. After that, your address may stay on a suppression list so you don't get emails again by mistake.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, delete or export your data, or object to its use, by writing to valerio.dirosa@ik.me. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, the UK or California) you may have further rights, including complaining to your local data protection authority.

Changes

If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top of the page.
